Herald White Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Musgrove Family Mortuary & West Lawn Memorial Park on Feb. 27, 2026.
Herald was born in Eugene, Oregon on December 8, 1926 and died February 20, 2026 at his home in Eugene with his family by his side. His mother was Bula Smith White (Pendleton) and father was Herald Wellington White Sr. (Cottage Grove). Both parents were descendent from early Oregon pioneers.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Phyllis Johnson White whom he loved dearly, and his children: Laurie Perrett, Nancy McCloud, Molly Benge, Lori Jackson, and Teri Fowler. His youngest child Vicki Booth preceded him in death. He had many wonderful sons-in-law, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Herald attended Edison Grade School, Roosevelt Jr High School, and University High School in Eugene. He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 yrs old during WWII. In 1951 he graduated from the U of O with a BA in Business. Herald joined his father at Mt. June Lumber Company in Jasper Oregon and worked there until the late 1970s. Later he was a lumber wholesaler for Hirt and Wood Lumber Company.

Herald was a family man extraordinaire – with a special love of children. He was humble and kind and loved to make people laugh. Golfing was a big part of his life where he made many friendships. He loved to vacation on the Oregon coast. Herald was on the U of O track team under Bill Bowerman and was a runner for most of his life. He ran to school when young and was still running around a track at age 90. Herald volunteered to officiate at U of O track meets for decades.

Herald White's large family is incredibly grateful to have had him in their lives for almost 100 years. A Memorial will be held for Herald on April 26 at 1pm at Musgrove Family Mortuary.
