Herbert P. Asbury, Sr. 86 of Abb’s Valley, Virginia passed away July 24, 2024, at his home with family by his side. Born in Boissevain, he was the son of Nan and Richard Asbury. He was a Pocahontas High School graduate. Herbert had many jobs but was a coal miner at heart. His hobby was working. He went to work at age eleven.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife, Wanda. Daughter Tammy Shrader. Son Herb Asbury, Jr. and Vickie. Granddaughter Amy. Granddaughter Ashley. Grandson Chad (Monica)
Grandson Chase (Ashton). Six great grandsons: Avery, Finn, Preston, Jax, Bo and J. Sister Elsie Allison (Bob). Brother Billy Asbury (Marlene). Brother Frazier Asbury (Patty). Left in his extended family are sisters Shirley, Elsie (Wayne). Brothers Larry (Diane), Rodney (Faye), Marshall (Debbie). A special niece, Kayla, who after her grandparents died adopted him as her Uncle Poppaw Herbert. And many other nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Marie Flummer. He was also preceded in death by extended family: son-in-law Joe Shrader, sisters Flora Blizzard and Helen Winters and brothers Edward, Daniel, Winfred, Kenneth, Mike and Jay.
Herbert was loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. on Sunday July 28, 2024.
Friends may visit from 12pm-2pm with Funeral at 2pm
Officiating by Reverend Todd Asbury. Eulogy by wife Wanda.
Herb Asbury, Jr., Chad Asbury, Chase Asbury, Avery Stevenson, Finn Stevenson and Marshall McCroskey will serve as pallbearers with Preston Binkley as an honorary pallbearer.
