Herbert "Bo" Bohannon Jr. was born on November 10, 1968. From the very beginning, his life was filled with energy, adventure, and a spirit of connection. As a child, his mother lovingly nicknamed him "Buster," and that name stuck with everyone who knew him in his hometown. Young Buster was active, curious, and full of life-always surrounded by friends and always on the move. He loved sports and often reminisced about his "glory days," sharing stories about "jumping out the gym" and "knocking baseballs out the park." Beyond the fun and competition, it was his work ethic, determination, and team spirit that laid the foundation for the man he would become.
After graduating from Arkansas High School in 1986, Buster left home to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. It was during this time that "Buster" became "Bo"-a young man stepping into responsibility and purpose. That name would come to represent the strength, leadership, and heart that defined him throughout his life.
Bo served with honor and distinction during his 22-year Navy career, starting as a Radioman and rising to the esteemed rank of Chief Petty Officer. This achievement was more than a title; it reflected his discipline, leadership, and unwavering commitment to others. Bo earned numerous awards and commendations throughout his service, leading with humility, integrity, and compassion. His natural ability to mentor and his willingness to lead by example earned him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.
After retiring from the Navy, Bo continued his life of service by building a successful career as an IT Specialist at the VA, supporting and advocating for veterans. He remained dedicated to helping others, always sharing knowledge, guiding careers, and opening doors for those around him.
While his military rank was a great honor, Bo's most cherished title was Dad. His greatest accomplishment was being a devoted father to his three sons: Herbert "Tre'" Bohannon III, Cirr-Nicholas Bohannon, and Justin Bohannon. They were his pride, his purpose, and his closest companions in life. Bo worked tirelessly to ensure his sons had every opportunity to succeed. He didn't just provide for them-he mentored them, encouraged them, and loved them deeply, teaching by example what it means to be strong, a provider, and a man. To his boys, Bo wasn't just a father-he was a hero, a teacher, and a friend.
Bo's heart extended beyond his own family. He became a father figure and mentor to countless young men and women, encouraging them to dream bigger and strive for more. Whether offering advice about the military, sharing life lessons, coaching, or simply lending an ear, Bo gave of himself freely and fully. When once asked about the contribution he wanted to make in life, his answer was simple: "To help people be able to take care of themselves for tomorrow."
And that's exactly what he did-not only for the next generation of sailors but for future generations of men and women.
Bo's journey from Buster-the playful, adventurous boy-to Bo-the respected leader, father, mentor, and friend-is a story of growth, resilience, and love. He lived a life of service-not only to his country but to his family, his friends, and everyone blessed enough to cross his path. Through his leadership, character, laughter, and unwavering guidance, Bo left this world better than he found it.
Bo was preceded in death by his loving mother Frankie Ann Clark, his maternal grandmother Pearl Esther Weekly Clark, his paternal grandmother Arlene Traylor, and his sister Katherine Bohannon.
His legacy continues on through his beloved sons Herbert "Tre'" Bohannon III, Cirr-Nicholas Bohannon, and Justin Bohannon; his devoted sister Tammy Clark Hubbard; and a host of other family members and loved ones who will forever hold him in their hearts.
His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
