Herbert Carroll Brown was born in Strong, Maine November 5, 1930. His parents were Wava Rowe Brown Whittier and Carroll Brown. After their divorce, his mother married Ashley Whittier and his father married Margaret Perry.

Herbert graduated from High School at Wilton Academy in 1949, going on to the University of Maine, Farmington for 2 years before joining the United States Airforce July 1951 with a tour in Korea. He gave his heart to his Savior at church in Korea. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1955.

He married Norma Joann Jenkins in August 6, 1955. For the first few years of marriage they presided in Springfield, Missouri, where he attended Central Bible Institute and Seminary. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in May of 1958. He went on to further his education at Evangel College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in August of 1966.

He and his wife Joann had three daughters, Carl Devon (born Carol Rebecca) Brown, Susan Rachel (Brown) Hayes and Karen Elizabeth (Brown) Carter.

Herbert loved the Lord and served Him as a pastor for several years before he went into public school teaching. Herbert and Joann spent most of their retirement years volunteering for RV MAPS of the Assemblies of God. Their last RV MAPS assignment was at the Teen Challenge Boys Ranch in Bonifay, Florida. They moved to Waxahachie, Texas to be near family in 2013.

Herbert is survived by his three children Carl Devon (Carol Rebecca) Brown of Milledgeville, Georgia, Susan Rachel Hayes of Waxahachie, Texas and Karen Elizabeth Carter of Leesville, Louisianna as well as their spouses Clancy Hayes and Lonnie Carter; four grandchildren Bridgette Hayes Titus, Andrea Carter Neske, Robert Hayes and Teresa Carter Prichard; four great grandchildren William Titus, Warren Prichard, Addalynne Titus and Jeremiah Prichard; his nieces and nephews Judy Roberts, Randy Drown, Gary Drown, Trudy Toothaker, Stephanie Slusher, Cindy Goodwin, David Jenkins, Susan Davis, Jim Brown, Cheryl Brown and Steve Brown.

The celebration of Herbert Brown’s homegoing will be at 1:30 pm at the Bluebonnet Rehab at Ennis, located at 2302 South Oak Grove Road, Ennis, Texas 75119 on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
