Herbert Guy Gillespie Sr.

Herbert Guy Gillespie, Sr. 82 of Kent passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice House in Akron. He was born March 16, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles and Norma (DeBrosse) Gillespie. Guy was a US Navy veteran and retired from Republic Steel in Cleveland. He was a 20 year volunteer for Portage Parks and recently received the Portage Park District Foundation Environmental Conservation Award for inspiring and teaching. Guy was a "Sky Ranger" that was always willing to share his vast knowledge of the universe and helped develop the Park District's astronomy program. Survivors include his wife Jacquelyn (Snively), children Herbert G. (Lorene) Jr., Marc (Kelly) Gillespie, Lydia (Brett) Lyon and Matthew (Beth) Gillespie, grandchildren Zachary, Kiera, Megan, Kayle, Adam, Emma, Isabelle, Andrew, Nina, Trevor, Meier and Anna, great grandchildren Zaiden, Easton, Camille, Emmett, Madelyn and Isaias and a twin sister Ola Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Mary Lou Vernon and Bill Gillespie. Calling hours will be from 2 - 6 PM Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Streetsboro Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM Monday, August 26, 2024 at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Portage Parks.
