Herbert “Herb” Charles Castle, 90, of Kingsport, TN passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2025. Herb was born in Jonesborough, TN and raised in Kingsport to parents Rev. James and Nancy Castle. He attended Dickson Elementary School. He went to work at a young age as a metal worker to support his family. Herb retired from Holston Defense but worked at many places locally in order to stay busy. He was a man of faith and was an active member of Pentecost Independent Freewill Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, dad, granddad and great grandad…better known as “papaw Herb.” Herb served in the United States Army for 2 years specializing in survival testing. He was incredibly talented and had hobbies such as woodworking and overseeing various projects that his boys were working on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James and Nancy Castle; brothers, James Riley, Junior, Cecil, and Rev. Richard; and sisters, Lucille Collins and Frances Lovegrove.
Herb is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Castle; sons, Keith Castle (Sherrie), and Ronald Castle (Amanda); grandchildren, Brian Castle (Whitney), Benjamin Castle (Rebecca), Alexis Castle, and Grayson Castle (Breanna); great-grandchildren, Kirra Jade, Kya Leola, Leslee Peyton, Lauren Olivia, and Liam Thomas David Weber; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Pentecost Independent Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Eddie L. McAmis officiating.
The graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
