Herbert E. "Gene" Mason, 93, went home to be with the Lord on January 4th, 2026. He was born on January 8, 1932, in Ft. Myers, Florida, and was reared and spent most of his life in Tampa.
He moved to Inverness with his wife Gwen in 1987. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict as an Air Policeman and graduated from the University of Tampa with a BS degree in Business Administration (law enforcement).
Mr. Mason served as a Sheriff's Deputy in Hillsborough County, and later as a special agent in the FBI. He went to work with GTE and retired 21 years later as manager of their security department. He also served as an elder in two different Presbyterian churches for 18 years in Brandon and was an active part of the Gideon's International Ministry for over 40 years.
He and his wife lived a number of years in the Windermere community in Inverness, where he served as president of their Homeowners Association for 5 years. He was an active member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, where he and his wife joined in 1988.
Memorial Services are to be held at the church at 10 AM on January 16, 2026.
Survivors include his son, TB, 3 granddaughters, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

We had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Gene when we came to Arbor Trails where we volunteer. He was a great man and wonderful spirit . We spent time with him every Thursday. We miss him already.
