Herbert May Obituary

Born on May 27, 1929 in East Rainelle, he was the son of the late Jesse Paul May and Florence Mazey Boggs May.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Walkup May; son, Russell Allen "Rusty" May; sisters, Celesta, Lenora and Jean; brother, Gordon and 2 infant brothers, Norman and Norland.
He was a member of the Sewell Valley Baptist Church of Rainelle and a former member of the East Rainelle Rotary. When married he was employed by Vance's Amoco, later going into business at May's Keystone and then May's Texaco. He was approached to take a job as Deputy Sheriff with Greenbrier County where he worked for 24 ½ years retiring in 1989. He and Sonny Stroud bought the M&S Farm on Simms Mountain where they raised horses and cattle. He joined the East Rainelle Fire Department in 1955 where he helped build the current fire station. He was appointed Fire Chief and was on the Board of Directors.
Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Bland of Meadow Bluff; son, Herbert May, Jr. "Herbie of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Shane (Amanda) May, Erica May, Joshua (Savannah) Reynolds, Matthew May and Tiler Bland; great grandchildren, Bryson, Caleb and Asher May, Kinley and Oaklyn Reynolds.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Sewell Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Whisman, Pastor Fred Fryar and Pastor Tiler Bland officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville. Visitation will be Saturday evening 6-8 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Sewell Valley Baptist Church or the Rainelle Volunteer Fire Department.
