Herbert Palmer, 89, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, often called "Buddy or Bud" by his family and friends, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023, at the age of 89.
A funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 4th at Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens in Suffolk, Virginia, officiated by Rev. Johnny B. Thompson III.
Bud was born November 16, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, the 2nd eldest of 5 children. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Army where he met his wife, Myrtle, while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. Their romance lasted 66 years and was blessed with one daughter, Candice. He lived vicariously through his daughter, teaching her about his love of impressionistic art, drawing and music. He attended classes at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and later went on to work as a mold maker at Tootsie Toy. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he proudly and often mentioned. Bud also loved to exercise and for many years he was an avid walker and liked to work out on his Bowflex.
Bud had a strong faith and relationship with the Lord. He loved to read the Bible and share his faith with others. Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
Bud loved his family and will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife Myrtle and daughter Candice Palmer, his brother Lester, and sisters, Judith and Pamela.
