Herbert Cecil Ryland

Herbert "Herb" Cecil Ryland, age 83, of Aurora Missouri, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at his home in Aurora. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was born February 15, 1942, in Independence, Missouri, to Herbert and Ina (Morgan) Ryland.
Herb dedicated over 30 years to General Electric before retiring to pursue his true passions. He had a love for antiques and auctions, always searching for hidden treasures. Whether restoring antique pieces or crafting something new, he spent countless hours in his shop.
A natural jokester, Herb was always ready with a witty remark or playful prank, especially to entertain his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, he never missed a game, cheering them on through every season and especially enjoying their recent success.
On June 11, 1986, he married Shirley Moreland in Miami, Oklahoma. They were happily married until her death on November 1, 2023.
Herb is survived by his brother, Lewis Ryland; daughter, Misty Potter; son, Charles Ryland; stepdaughter, Diane Swearingen (Steve); five grandchildren, Adam Potter (Claire), Tyler Potter, Kyndal Bockelman (Dave), Logan Ryland, and Clarissa Vincent (James); three great-grandchildren, Bennett Potter, Merritt and Murphy Bockelman.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ina Ryland; wife, Shirley (Moreland) Ryland, and son, Loren Ryland.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Yocum Pond Cemetery in Reeds Spring, Missouri.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
