After serving his country with distinction in the U.S. Military, Herbie took the skills he honed in service and became a welding instructor at the Newport News Shipyard. His commitment to excellence and teaching left an indelible mark on those he mentored. Herbie found great fulfillment in guiding others, imparting not only technical skills but also values of hard work and integrity.
Outside of his professional life, Herbie's heart belonged to his family and his loyal companion, Bailey, his cherished Pitbull. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, four brothers, his son-in-law John R. Johnson, and his son Tony C. Barton, Herbie leaves behind a legacy of resilience and love. He is survived by his daughter Joy Johnson, his son David C. Barton, a supportive extended family, and a host of lifelong friends who will forever remember his kindness and unwavering spirit.
