Obituary
Herman Brandenburg Emmett
March 13, 1943- November 6, 2025
Herman Brandenburg Emmett, 82, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in
Worland, Wyoming.
He was born on March 13, 1943, in Lovell, Wyoming, to Adis Herman and Lillian Ada (Brandenburg) Emmett. Herman grew up in Lovell and graduated from Lovell High School in 1961. Shortly after, he joined the United States Air Force, where he developed a lifelong sense of duty and pride in his country.
Following his honorable discharge, Herman returned home and soon met the love of his life, Janet Miller, at the Byron Bar. The two fell in love instantly, and after a whirlwind three months of dating, they were married on August 27, 1965. At the time, Herman worked as a mechanic, and the young couple moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to further his career.
Determined to provide for his growing family, Herman took the Wyoming Highway Patrol exam, where he earned the highest score in his class and was invited to join the patrol. That opportunity became his true calling. Together, they welcomed three children - Kris, Kraig, and Kolleen.
For 29 years, he proudly served communities across the state, building friendships and earning a deep respect for his integrity and dedication.
After retiring from the patrol, Herman continued to serve his community in new ways. While living in Worland, he became a city councilman, then Mayor, deputy coroner, and an active member of several boards, including the Sunlight Federal Credit Union.
A man of many talents, Herman was also an exceptional carpenter with an artistic eye. He created intricate stained-glass pieces and tended to his yard with the same care and precision, growing roses and maintaining a garden that was the envy of all who saw it. As a Washakie County master gardener, he took pride in canning and sharing his harvest with family and friends.
Herman also had a lifelong love of cars and was a proud member of a Corvette club. One of his proudest moments came when he helped organize a trip for local veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the Vietnams Veterans Memorial wall - an experience that reflected his deep respect for his country and those who served it. He passed that patriotism on to his grandchildren, involving them in assembling care packages for troops overseas.
Known for his meticulous nature and dry sense of humor, "Herm" had a way of keeping everyone around him on their toes. A devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, he always made sure his family was cared for and never missed a chance to remind them how proud he was. In his later years, he kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles and never missed a Broncos game - in fact, he spent his final hours doing just that, watching one last game.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Julie Ann; and sisters Gloria Breiling, Shirley Whitlock, Betty Wagner, and Arlene Walker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Janet; his son Kraig (Michelle) Emmett of Worland; daughters Kris (John) Graham of Worland and Kolleen (David) Allred of Gillette; brother Lyle Emmett of Gilbert, Arizona; and sister Linda Emmett of Saint George, Utah. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren - Trishelle Salomon, Zackery Salomon, Kasey Salomon, Jordan Emmett, Katie Emmett, Matthew Emmett, Samantha Birringer, and Julieanna Skidmore - as well as great-grandchildren Ryan, Lainey, and Novella.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 14, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with a viewing one hour prior. A military graveside service will follow. A public visitation will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel.
