Herman “Herky” Gasman, age 94, passed away on November 16, 2023.
Born & raised in South Philly, Herky raised his family in the Northeast and fulfilled his dream of retiring to the shore in Margate, NJ. He is survived by his wife Jean of 67 years, son David Gasman (Dori Neave), his two granddaughters who he raised as his own Tina Romolini (Frank), Brianna Gedraitis, and his great grandsons, Justin Romolini & Joseph Romolini. He was preceded in death by his daughter Joyce Gasman Landy.
Herky enjoyed a long career in the US Department of the Army as a Systems Analyst after serving honorably as a Corporal in the US Army. He was an excellent athlete with sprinter’s speed that served him well as a Running Back and Center Fielder in his two favorite sports. A friend to many in South Philly & beyond, Herky always considered himself a South Philly “Corner Boy” for life. He was a devoted family man, a true gentleman, and the very definition of selflessness consistently putting others first.
Herky was a dedicated member of The Jewish War Veterans of the USA. In lieu of flowers or other contributions, it would be most meaningful to the family that donations be made to this worthy cause. Please use the following link:
