David Herman Mitchell, 74, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at River Place Nursing in Amory. Herman was born in Amory on June 23, 1950 to the late A.W. and Lula Mae Shields Mitchell. Herman attended Becker and Hatley Schools. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War. He married the former Dottie Vandiver on December 1, 1972. Herman's entire working career was in the trucking industry, first as an owner operator and later as a fleet dispatcher. He loved all things trucking and enjoyed his career each day. Herman was a faithful and devoted Christian. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he had served as a past song leader. He loved going to church and helped anywhere he could. Herman was a gentle and honest man who encouraged and uplifted all that knew him.
He is survived by his son, David Mitchell; brothers, Earnest Mitchell (Willistine), Amory and Ellis Mitchell (Annette), Becker; special friends, Mike and Kim Katka, Bro. Rodney and Cindy Waycaster; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Herman is preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy, Maddie Bell, Evelyn, Betty Mae, Eunice, Jimmie, Mavis, Everette, Malcolm, Hartfol, Austin, Joyce, Voy Guy, Donald Ray, Wayne, Jerry and Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral in Amory with Bro. Rodney Waycaster officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallberaers will be Ralph Mitchell, James Mitchell, Adrian Mitchell, Austin Mitchell, Boyd Duncan, Mike Steele and Kendall Waycaster.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5-8 PM.
