Joseph Mitchell Obituary

Visit the Mueller-Bies Funeral Home - Roseville Chapel website to view the full obituary.

Joseph "Joe/Joey" Mitchell, age 62, left peacefully at home after a 5+ year battle with stage 4 Colorectal Cancer on January 24, 2026.

Joe was born on December 11, 1963, in St. Paul, Minnesota, and grew up in Frogtown to George and Marie Mitchell. He graduated in 1982 from St. Agnes High School and later that year he met his future wife Becky at the St. Paul Police Department where he was a Captain of the explorer program.

Joe was a man of strength and resilience, known for his unwavering loyalty, courageous spirit, and reliable nature. Underneath his stubborn exterior was a heart full of love and dedication for his family and friends.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Mitchell.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 40 years, Becky; beloved son, Nate (Bethany) Mitchell; adored daughters, Jessie (Matt) Sorgaard and Nicki (DJ) Horn; and precious grandchildren that he adores even when they could be a little loud; Camille (his Peachy), Callen, Hadlee, and Mason Boy. Also survived by many other close friends and family.

His family and friends were the center of his universe, and their memories of him will stay with us forever.

He loved his job at Kodiak Furniture, he never wanted to miss a day. Thanks to Dave, Pat, Mike, Ernesto and all the guys there that made him want to go. He also enjoyed his time bartending at the Vic and talking to all the friends he met there. He missed going there the last weeks of life so thank you all so much for giving him your friendship.

A lifelong resident of Minnesota, Joe was a man of many passions. He was a golfer, bowler, and card player. He found joy in cooking for his family and friends. He loved football, hockey, and baseball. His love for travel took him to many places, and he cherished those memories. His frequent visits to the casino were always full of excitement and laughter.

Joe was a loyal friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand, share a kind word, or offer his wisdom. His resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him. He had so many friends who he considered family. Thank you Mike and Chris, Kevin and Andrea, Clint and Robin, Rickbo, Tim and Maureen, Jerry and Michelle, Freddie and Brittany, John and Kelsey and of course all of their kids and so many many more.

We also want to thank Dr. Lemma and all the staff at Minnesota Oncology who gave us the last 5 years with Joe. Also thank you to St. Croix Hospice who helped us with the last few days.

In the 5 years since the diagnosis we were able to take two family trips; one to Myrtle Beach and another to Phoenix. In addition Joe and Becky took multiple vacations together to make lasting memories. Joe also got to take an amazing trip to Italy with Becky and Camille and another to the Florida Keys with Clint and Robin.

Joe’s legacy of resilience, loyalty, and courage will continue to live on through his family and everyone who had the privilege to know him. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of many and will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be a symbol of strength and love, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
