Jackie J. Mitchell, age 86, of Biloxi, passed away on January 21, 2026.

Jackie was a native of Fernandina Beach, Florida where he graduated from Peck High School in the top 5% of his class. He lettered in football and basketball during his junior and senior years. After graduating high school, he attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee for two years then later graduated from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi with a B.S. Degree in Sociology and a minor in Education and Psychology. Always wanting to further his education, Jackie received a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. He completed additional work in Adult Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Jackie also taught part-time at William Carey University and Phillips College. While in the military he completed many computer maintenance and repair courses.

After serving six years in the United States Army, he then served in the United States Air Force for twenty-one years, working as an Electronic Computer Repairman and Instructor until he retired. After retiring from the military, he worked two years as an Engineering Writer for Data Systems Division. Jackie worked for another twenty-one years as a civilian at Keesler Air Force Base in Education and Training. He started as an Electronic Instructor and later retired as a Training Manager for the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) career field where he was responsible for all Department of Defense PMEL training. He retired from that position on September 30, 2003.

Jackie was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Biloxi, where he served as a Finance Committee Chairperson. He was a member of the United Supreme Council, Keeper of the Seal & Archives, King Solomon Consistory #142, Pascagoula, MS. He held several positions with many organizations including, Second Lieutenant Commander, of the Magnolia Council of Deliberation, President of the Joseph B. Henderson Commanders of the Rite, Treasurer, Exalted Ruler, and Leading Knight of the Vernon Gilbert Elks Lodge #567, Basillieus and Keeper of Finance of the Iota Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Most Excellent High Priest of the Biloxi Royal Arch Chapter #39, Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Treasurer and Secretary of the Henry Beck Masonic Lodge #307, Chief Rabian of the Karun Temple #48, and Convention Coordinator for Mississippi State of Elks.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents Deacon Duncan C. Mitchell and Ora Lee Mitchell; and his brother, Shermon L. Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice D. Coleman Mitchell; his three sons, Jackie “Skipp” Mitchell, Upper Marboro, MD, Michael C. Mitchell (Yolonda), Bowie, MD, and Roderick B. Mitchell, Sr. (Latisha), Biloxi, MS; his five granddaughters, Jazmyne J. Mitchell, New York, NY, Mia Mitchell, Charlotte, NC, Kiara Mitchell-Lofton (Antony), Gulfport, MS, Daijai N. Mitchell (Curtis), Biloxi, MS, and Ayanna T. Mitchell, Biloxi, MS; his grandson, Roderick B. Mitchell, Jr., Biloxi, MS; his great grandson, Haze Lofton, Gulfport, MS; his two great granddaughters, Asami Mitchell, Biloxi, MS, and Harmoni Lofton, Gulfport, MS; his Sister, Barbara J. Hill, Charlotte, NC; his sister-in-law, Evelenia Mitchell, Vine Grove, KY; and a host of Nieces and Nephews.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS.

The funeral service will be at 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 696 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Biloxi, MS. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
