Candace Blue Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hartman-Jones Funeral Home - McComb on Feb. 10, 2026.
Candace "Candy" Godfrey Blue went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026. She was at home with her husband of 47 years by her side.

Visitation is Monday, February 16, 2026 at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Summit, MS from 10:00-12:00 pm with a memorial service starting at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS.

Candy was born in Wilkinsburg, PA on March 5, 1949. She was the daughter of Arthur Godfrey and Vivian Bauman Godfrey.

She graduated from Provine High School in Jackson in 1967 and the University of Southern Mississippi in 1971. She received her master's degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert L. Godfrey and two brothers-in-law Frankie Freeman and Randy Parker.

Candy was a lifelong member of the Prebysterian faith. She was currently a member at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Summit. She is a former member at Alta Woods Presbyterian Church in Jackson and J.J. White Memorial Presbyterian Church in McComb. She was a children's Sunday School teacher and participated in women's Bible studies and prayer groups. She enjoyed planning church luncheons and bereavement meals for families that have lost a loved one. In the community, she is a former member of MICA, McComb Garden Club and Flower Lovers Club.

She loved decorating, planning parties, tablescapes, making fresh flower arrangements, holiday décor especially Christmas. She also enjoyed antique shopping, sewing, road trips with her family and many friends. She loved music, especially The Eagles and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A good Ann Rule book and a true crime story was all she needed to be entertained.

Candy made being a friend very easy. She regularly met with her Jackson friends: Janice Spence, Teena Grantham, Patty Roper, Glenda Robinson, Carolyn Hodges, Cheryl Sides, and the late Janey Brashier. Her bunko group of thirty plus years includes Renee Hote, Kathy Robison, Cristy Holloway, Betsy Murrell, Dr. Dawn Sumrall, June Gilbert, Melinda Wallace, Jan Dykes, and the late Kathy Parker. Candy's Special church cooking friends are Jane Gibson, Gwen Marsalis, Emily Thompson, and Linda Young.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Blue; her daughter Janna Blue and her two sons, John David and Mark Blue; Her sister, Gille Godfrey Freeman and her daughters, April Sims, Shelly Miller and Kerri Black; Her late brother's daughters, Summer Brewer and Shauna Godfrey; Her sister-in-law, Ginger Blue Parker and her niece Ellen Clementson and nephew Lennox Clementson along with a number of cousins and many friends.

Those who knew her will miss her warmth, generosity, and sense of humor.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Luke Home Health who cared for her during her illness.

Donations may be made to MICA, Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Mississippi, Pike County Youth Sports, or New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Candy and I had known each other since Junior High school, and after college, taught school together for many years. She was a dear and precious friend. I send prayers of peace and comfort to Steve and the boys.

I knew Candy in Jackson and then again in McComb and Summit. She was a good friend to many and will be so missed. My prayers go with Steve and their three children.
