Herman Lee Norfleet Sr.

Herman Lee Norfleet, Sr., age 79, of Colington Harbor, NC, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones, following a brief illness.
Born on August 29, 1945, in Belhaven, NC, Herman was the son of the late Madge Williams and Thomas Norfleet of Belhaven and Elizabeth City, NC.
Herman is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Emily Sanderlin Norfleet; his son, Herman Lee Norfleet, Jr. (Terri); his daughter, Toni Lynn Norfleet (John); his beloved dog, Kelly; and grand dogs, Sparky and Tucker.
He is also survived by his siblings: Fay Fletcher (Billy) of San Antonio, TX; Neba Hilts (Elwood) of Elizabeth City, NC; Jean Chase (Herb) of Elizabeth City, NC; and Alvin Norfleet (Sheila) of Camden, NC. He leaves behind special friends, Frank "Whit" Whitford of Colington and Judith H. Fearing of Nags Head, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Norfleet, Buster Norfleet, and Hurbert Norfleet, sisters, Florene Bateman and Lisa Marie Norfleet.
A hardworking and respected businessman, Herman owned and operated Norfleet Construction for 29 years and, most recently, Norfleet Outer Banks Properties, LLC.
In earlier years, he enjoyed dancing, hunting, and fishing, and was an avid fan of classic westerns like Gunsmoke. He will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his loyalty, and the way he extended a helping hand to all.
Herman especially treasured the peaceful times spent with Emily in their Columbia, NC getaway, where they enjoyed gardening and the slower pace of country life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025, at The Salvation Army church in Elizabeth City, NC, with a viewing from 2-3 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m., followed by a burial in Shawboro, NC, at The Sanderlin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Herman's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Elizabeth City Salvation Army or the Colington Fire Department.
