Mr. Herman Smith, 73 passed away February 28, 2026, at Candler County Hospital, Metter, GA. He was born July 29, 1952, in Tattnall County, Collins, Ga. to the late Mr. Coy Smith and Elnora Costen Smith. His paternal grandparents, the late Mr. Remer and Lacey Mae Smith, his maternal grandparents, Mr. Lester and Jadie Mae Costen.

At an early age under the pastoral Leadership of the late Rev. J. R. Rice, Herman made a spiritual commitment to God and joined Bethel A.M. E. Church, Collins, Ga.

He attended Collins Elementary School, Collins, Ga. and graduated High School in 1970 from Tattnall County Industrial High, Reidsville, Ga.

After graduation Herman moved to Bronx, New York and later to New Jersey where he worked at Edgewood Country Club in River vale, New Jersey, one of the most prestigious restaurants in New Jersey, this is where he mastered his culinary skills before returning home to Collins, Ga.

Herman was proceeded in death by his parents Coy Smith and Elnora Costen Smith and a brother Coy Smith Jr. He is survived by four Aunts Mrs. Julie (Lyman) Bailey, of Atlanta Ga. Mrs. Frances (Alfonso) Borden of Englewood, New Jersey Mrs. Jessie (William) Goodman of Elmont, New York and Mrs. Helen (Alton) McKinnon of Collins, Ga.; one Uncle Mr. Willis Costen of Collins, Ga. A special cousin Mr. Quinton Smith of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Collins with Eulogist, Pastor Jonathan Taylor.

Interment will follow at Ogden Mill Cemetery in Reidsville.
