Herman E. Tober Jr.

Herman E. "Chuck" Tober Jr., 89, passed away on October 31, 2025, at Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Corning, NY. He was born on July 3, 1936, in Connellsville, PA, to Herman and Elizabeth (Slavin) Tober Sr. He graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1954 and worked as a machinist for Dresser-Rand for nearly 40 years. On August 3, 1957, he married Martha E. Crane at St. Patrick's Church in Corning. Herman was a devoted husband and father. Reflecting on his life brings to mind so many wonderful times. He was a reserved man who enjoyed quiet moments at home and time with his family. He loved deer hunting and, in his later years, could often be found watching television, especially football cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Tober; his son, Scott Tober of Painted Post; two grandchildren, Jacob and Alex; and his four-legged companion, Cristy.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Tober.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Parkview Drive, Painted Post on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Troy Preston officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Phillips Funeral Home in Corning.
