Herminia "Miña" Cornejo, aged 70, of Hegewisch, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Born on December 8, 1954, she was a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her, touching lives with her kindness and unwavering spirit.

Herminia was the cherished matriarch of the Cornejo family, imparting her values of faith, compassion, and resilience. She was the loving mother of Michael (Veronica) Cornejo, Dereck (Sonia) Cornejo, Michele Cornejo, and Mario (Elizabeth) Cornejo. Her love was further multiplied as she became the proud grandmother of Gabrielle, Dereck Jr., Aidan, Olivia, Aiden, Benjamin, and Clarissa. Herminia's legacy of love and guidance will continue to live on through them.

Her siblings, Arturo (Angelica) Mota, the late Benjamin (Martha) Mota, Chayo Mota, the late Rosa (late Juan) Alvarez, Elvira (late Joe) Maida, Alicia (Arturo) Huizar, and Silvia (Gustavo) Muñoz, remember Herminia as a kind and nurturing sister. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, and godchildren will fondly recall her wisdom, laughter, and the special place she held as their dear aunt and Godmother.

Herminia was a devout Catholic and an integral part of the St. Florian Church community. Her faith was evident in her commitment to service, as she dedicated her time and energy to the church's food pantry and was a devoted member of the Guadalupanas. Herminia's faith was her guiding light, and she inspired many through her actions and devotion.

Herminia was known for her kindness towards others, always ready to feed the hungry and help the sick. Her home and her heart were always open to those in need. She enjoyed making every birthday special by cooking customized meals for her family. She was also an avid gardener, Herminia found solace and joy among her flowers. Her garden was a vibrant reflection of her inner beauty, teeming with life and color. It was in this personal sanctuary that she not only cultivated plants but also nurtured the bonds with her loved ones, teaching her grandchildren the beauty of growth and the joy of caring for living things.

Herminia’s parents, Andres and Herminia Mota, preceded her in passing. They instilled in her the strength and grace that became the hallmark of her character. Herminia's presence was a gift to all, and her memory will be treasured as a source of light and warmth in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Herminia "Miña" Cornejo's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. As we bid her farewell, we celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the countless ways she enriched ours.
