Dr. Hilary Lawrence Bowman, age 75, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at AdventHealth Hospital in Orlando.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 50 years, Verina Bowman; his children, Dr. Kurt Bowman and Karen Swan; his daughter-in-law, Charlene Robertson-Bowman; his son-in-law, Sherman Swan; and his treasured grandchildren, Callie, Aliyah, and Zayn Bowman, and Xander and Kai Swan. He is also survived by his sisters, Celena Clarke and Ann Knights, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Born in Richland Park, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Hilary received his early education there before earning his undergraduate degree at the University of the Southern Caribbean. He later completed graduate studies at Andrews University and Union Institute and University.
With over 50 years dedicated to the field of education and 42 years of distinguished service within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hilary has shaped countless lives.
His leadership included roles as teacher, principal, Director of Education for both the East Caribbean and Caribbean Union Conferences, and ultimately, president of the University of the Southern Caribbean.
Hilary was more than an educator. He was a family man, a mentor, a trusted advisor, an entrepreneur, and a community leader. Known for his wisdom, problem-solving spirit, and steadfast faith, he was a source of encouragement and inspiration to all who knew him.
His legacy of faith, family, and education will live on in the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Orlando Filipino Seventh-day Adventist Church. Interment will follow at Highland Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 3329 E. Semoran Blvd, Apopka, FL 32703.
