Hilda Mary Hecker

Hilda Mary Hecker, nee Davies, 97, of Aiken, South Carolina passed away in her home on October 29, 2025 with family.

Hilda was born in Jeppes, Johannesburg, Union of South Africa on November 28, 1927. Parents are not listed on the birth certificate. Following her local education and the birth of her daughter, Delores, Hilda came to the United States. Her Certificate of Naturalization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as Hilda Mary Bauer is dated September 6, 1955. She later divorced.

A few years later, Hilda’s daughter, Delores was born. Hilda’s employment years were spent mostly in the restaurant hospitality industry, specifically Pappy’s in Milwaukee, WI.

In 1963, Hilda married Frederick Ernst Hecker, an enterprising and respected Osteopathic Surgeon practicing in Milwaukee, WI. Following the marriage, they resided in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Her family grew to include the Hecker children, Michael, Holly, Hilary and Peter. After Dr. Hecker retired they moved to Hilton Head, SC and later to Aiken, SC. At age 90 he preceded Hilda in death at age 90. Remaining as we cherish her memory are two of the five children, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren -with one on the way!

Hilda especially loved her family and many friends from across the US. She never missed a holiday, birthday or anniversary with messages, cards, and/or gifts. She loved to travel. She often would say “traveling the world is my education.” She also kept her mind sharp by finishing the USA Today crossword daily!

Several things made Hilda special. She loved tennis and was an accomplished player competing successfully in many State Championships in the age 65 and over category. She created beautiful needlework projects displayed in her home and as gifts, loved American Mah Jongg, and enjoyed home entertaining. Probably her proudest accomplishments were her various magnificent miniature decorated doll houses.

At this time, no memorials or donations are mentioned. In lieu of services Hilda’s wishes are to remember her in your own way. Be with all of us who are now at peace with her passing as she is now at peace.
