William David “Dave / Lefty” Hecker, 61, of Mount Vernon, OH, entered into rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Country Court Nursing Home, in Mount Vernon. Dave was born May 1, 1964, in Columbus, OH, to William and Ermalyn Faith {Coon} Hecker. On June 16, 2014, Dave married Aundrea “Angi” Lynn Derick-Keim who preceded him in death January 27, 2025. Dave’s extended health issue left him bedridden for the past four years. Prior to that, Dave drove a semi for a flower company dropping flowers for large retail stores.
Three things Dave loved most in this world were God, his family and music. He loved his children and grandchildren as well as his dog, "Bailey" and cat, "Babygirl." He could be stubborn when he wanted to be. He had a wonderful sense of humor, quick witted, a very funny man. He would have his mom rolling in tearful laughter a lot when he was growing up. He was an avid gardener, an Amateur Radio “Ham” operator, carpenter, electrician, livestock and farm operations manager. He was an artist, drawing, doodling, and painting. He could master any type of instrument in just one or two days. His favorites were guitar, piano and drums. He would be up all hours of the night practicing and keeping the family awake. Sometimes all the younger kids would be up with him for hours singing, playing music and keeping their parents awake. Dave sang and wrote music for most of his life. He loved all the different genres of music. He played with “Next of Kin” a rock and roll band all over central Ohio. He also played and sang gospel music in churches. He led several Bible groups as a mentor, song leader and teacher.
Dave will be missed by his children Michelle, David, Donovan, Daniel, D.J.; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and siblings Jim, Jeff, Crystal, Charles “Cary”, Sheila “Shelly” and Glenda. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Alex, and his wife Angi.
The family thanks Country Court for the kindness, care, and attention to his needs as well as the needs of the family during his long convalescence.
Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, OH. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com.
