Hilda McLucas Obituary
Born on Nov. 16, 1942, in Rabun Gap, Ga., Hilda was the daughter of the late Buster "Buck" Carver and Leona Thomas Carver. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew McLucas.
Hilda was a true entrepreneur at heart. She owned and operated Hilda's This and That in McDonough, Ga., and also ran a daycare, both of which reflected her dedication to serving others. One of her greatest passions in life was travel - she especially loved visiting Alaska and Ireland. Even in her later years, she continued to travel to Florida and Tennessee, often enjoying girls' trips and attending races in Daytona.
Easter was Hilda's favorite holiday. Each year, she hosted a Saturday cookout where loved ones would gather to dye eggs. On Easter Sunday, she loved bringing everyone together for a heartfelt family and friends gathering filled with good food, laughter, love and a festive Easter egg hunt. Hilda took great joy in personally filling Easter baskets for each guest to take home, creating cherished memories for all who attended.
She is survived by her sisters: Mary Jane McCoy of Rabun Gap; Claudia Dodgins of Clayton, Ga.; Katie Woodall of Tiger, Ga.; Brenda Gass of Whittier, N.C.; Phyllis Ramey of Lakemont, Ga.; Faye Partain (Steve) of Ellenwood, Ga.; and Kaye Collins (David) of Tiger, Ga. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many dear friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her sisters JoAnn Chastain and Earline Benfield; her brother, John Zeb Carver; her niece, Debbie McCoy; and her nephew, Matthew Woodall.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Rogers officiating. Interment followed at Hale Ridge Cemetery.
The family received friends on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 5 p.m.–7 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fox Fire in memory of Hilda Carver McLucas, PO Box 541, Mountain City, GA 30562.
