Jean Masengale Stanford, 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Amory, MS. She was born March 27, 1932 to the late Truman Masengale and Chester Brewer Masengale.
She grew up in Smithville in a loving family with one brother, Arley, and one sister, Flora. Jean graduated from Smithville High School and was a successful entrepreneur and owned her own business, Jean’s Beauty Shop, in the Athens Community for many years. With her outgoing personality and caring nature she made many friends who loved her like family. Jean married the love of her life, Calvin Stanford, and they had many wonderful years together before his passing in 1999. They were blessed with one son, Ed Stanford, and one daughter, Kathy Haney.
She is described by those who loved and knew her best as caring and feisty. Jean always had an impressive spirt of determination and strength which was best illustrated by her beating cancer despite having all odds against her. She was an accomplished piano player and enjoyed working in her garden. She was a great cook, and with her servants heart, she took great pride in preparing meals for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially Saturday morning breakfasts, Sunday lunches, and yearly vacations. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Amory Church of Christ.
While she will be dearly missed by her family and friends, they take great comfort in knowing she is healed and happy in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her son, Ed Stanford (Teresa); daughter, Kathy Haney; four grandchildren, Kristen O’Brian (Jimmy), Matt Haney (Elizabeth), Paige Lochridge (Adam), and Jake Stanford (Anna Marie); nine great-grandchildren, Addie Kate, Neely, Cade, Mattie, Gage, Anna Masen, Earlea, Pierce, Elizee, and Logan.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin C. Stanford; parents, Truman Masengale and Chester Brewer Masengale; sister, Flora Stafford; brother, Arley Masengale; and son in law, Jim Haney.
A Celebration Of Life Graveside Service will be held Monday, October 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Masonic Cemetery with Ministers Jonathan Godsey and Philip Hathcock officiating.
