Hildred Howell

1924 - 2023

Hildred Johnson Howell, 98, passed peacefully Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born November 11, 1924 to the late John Elmor Johnson and the late Catherine McKey Johnson. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Golden. She graduated from Fairview High School. She attended Florence State College in Florence, AL. She worked for Dr. George Howell, Dr. Charles Johnson, and Dr. Gary Johnson. She was executive director of TURN (The Urgent Rural Needs) centers in Golden and Tremont, in what is now Access Family Health.

Visitation only will be 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Senter Funeral Directors. Burial will be at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her children: Attorney, S. Janice Howell (George Newbury III) of Alexandria, VA, Dr. Michael G. (Ann) Howell of Fulton, MS; grandchildren: Karen Howell, Steven Howell, Amanda Ellison, Thomas Chism, George Newbury IV, Elizabeth Newbury, Daniel Newbury; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. George W. Howell; 10 siblings.

Memorials are encouraged to be made to Sanctuary Hospice House.
