Homer Horras

 

Homer Horras was born on February 17, 1929 in Keota, Iowa, to Alva and Teresa Horras.  He passed peacefully at Maury County Regional Hospital on May 7, 2023 at 94 years young. Homer’s family and friends knew him as reserved, determined, devoted and loyal. He was a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs.

Homer graduated from Fairfield Iowa High School in 1946 where he was an All Conference football player. On July 9, 1949 he married the love of his life, Margaret, to whom he was married for 74 years. After marriage, Homer and Margaret lived and worked on the family farm near Fairfield, IA. In 1950 Homer, his brother and his brother-in-law started Sunrise Dairy which was a successful venture for the next 10 years. He then moved his family to Keokuk, IA in 1962 where he worked in a corn processing facility until 1974 when he started a True Value Hardware store in Hamilton, IL. Homer loved being an entrepreneur and running the store until he retired in 1991. After retiring, Homer and Margaret moved to McAllen, TX for several years before moving to the Springfield, MO area.

Homer is survived by his lovely wife Margaret, his sister Ruth, and six of his children: Joanne (Ali), Douglas (Patty), Deborah (Jeff), Randy (Sharon), Angie (John) and Jeff (Shari), along with his devoted daughter-in-law, Barbara, widow of his son Phillip who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Harlan and Maxine. Homer has 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Rosary and Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 14 at 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home located at 5239 Main St., Spring Hill, TN 37174.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, May 15 at 2:00 PM at the Catholic Church of the Nativity located at 2793 Buckner Rd., Thompsons Station, TN 37179

Burial will take place at a future date to be determined in Mount Pleasant, IA.
