H. Daniel Jones III of Alexandria, Virginia
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Dan Jones passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 31, 2025. The eldest son of Homer Daniel Jones Jr and Helen Cornwell Jones, he was born on October 18, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts. Dan grew up in Barrington, Rhode Island, St. David's Pennsylvania, and Princeton, New Jersey. Dan attended the Haverford School from lower school through 11th grade and then graduated from the Lawrenceville School in 1961. He then moved to Virginia and graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1965 with a BA in History. He then moved to Tennessee and graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in 1968.
After graduation he moved to Washington, DC and began a career in politics and later in wealth management.
Dan met Nora Feldmuth of Lima, Peru at a party in 1980 and married shortly thereafter. Over 42 years of marriage, Dan and Nora, and their two children, Danny and Jacqui, created wonderful family memories.
Dan had many interests, but nothing was more important to him than family. He attended every ice hockey, baseball, football, soccer, and lacrosse game, every horseback riding lesson, every birthday party, and every parent's weekend at camps and schools. He also photographed every event - even in her 30s he rode with Jacqui's crew coach and took photos of her rowing. He often said, "if you don't have a picture, it never happened." Dan also enjoyed travel, history, numismatic coins, gardening, baseball, politics, the stock market and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. He will be remembered for his deep baritone voice, stopping at every historic road marker, his impromptu history lectures, amazing memory, writing skills, speeches, photographs, always carrying $2 bills, and his love for the Red Sox, Ted Williams, and Elvis Presley.
Dan is survived by his wife, Nora, daughter, Jacquelyn, son, Homer Daniel Jones IV (Elizabeth) and granddaughters Anna Catherine Jones and Helen Jones.
