Sadly, I only knew Sam briefly through our shared association with the Bluegrass Parkinson's Alliance, but during that time I found him to be a thoughtful and considerate soul. My condolences to the family for their loss of an extraordinary gentleman.

It was an honor to get to know Sam through our common ministry in our Lexington Men's BSF class. Sam started our pilot class 35 years ago and led and taught for the first 12 years. In 2011, when I became the teaching leader for the class, Sam passed along a number of commentaries to support my preparation for teaching. Sam will be fondly remembered and deeply missed in the BSF community!

My very 1st memory of Papa Sam was when a sermon was given about racial reconciliation and Sam turned around in his seat, took my hand and looked me in my eyes and said "I´m so sorry ".
