I just learned of Tom's passing. We were friends from Vermont Law School. My wife, Dianne, and I spent a spectacular day with Tom and Sue at a ski jump competition in the Brattleboro area about 40 years ago (before kids, and before we relocated), and we met Tom's wonderful parents at their B&B that day as well. All of the kind words I've read in Tom's obit applied then as well as now, but, of course, Tom was more than a "nice guy." He was a doer and an achiever, with a strong moral compass. Tom remains an inspiration to me as to how one should conduct himself or herself. Dianne and I send our condolences to Sue and the family, and we know Tom's rest is peaceful. Jim and Dianne Vitt

I can't say enough about my cousin Tommy Durkin, so I'll post a photo I saw at Tom's retirement ceremony from The Brattleboro Reformer. And also add a quote from his former law partner Ted Kramer here: "Tom Durkin is the happiest judge in America". Tom also represented two of my oldest friends Kathy and Jerry Costello of Wilmington. They had great admiration for Tom's professional legal expertise and his steady patience. They considered him a dear friend. I am adding an Irish Blessing here as well. Tom really wanted to make it to Ireland. I sent him photos of our trip there this past spring and he loved them. We will all miss him dearly. All the best, Tom and Sue and family, much love Dean and Monica

I was saddened to hear of Tom's passing. Although we practiced in different regions of Vermont we often had opportunities to interact, most frequently due to our mutual love and affaction for our alma mater, Vermont Law School (VLS). Tom was an excellent lawyer; one who served his clients well because he valued the day of understanding over the day of judgment. I was so glad to see Tom at the VBA Annual Meeting at Lake Morey this past September. There, with his family in attendance, he was presented with the President's Award for his exceptional contributions to the Vermont Bar and received a standing ovation from all in attendance. Tom, I will miss you, as will the entire legal community. Your memory is a blessing to us all. Sue, may you and your children be comforted at this difficult time. Bless you all. Scott Cameron

TOM was one of the finest men in my life. the LOVE he shared and created in his family was an example for all of us. a diligent worker and a happy guy- he was a man`s man.-- even more a family man . So much a part of everyones life and lifes lessons for all he touched. As a person ,a father ,grandfather ,and judge, his life was a total success. He leaves behind a family of much love to whom he gave selflessly.
