Honorary Deacon Larry Kennedy, 70, of Hartford, CT, entered eternal rest on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Deacon Kennedy was born in Winnsboro, SC, the son of the late Sammie P. Kennedy and Mary I. (Watkins) Kennedy. He attended Winnsboro High School.
Migrating to Hartford at seventeen, Deacon Kennedy held various jobs such as landscaping, and auto detailing at Hoffman Auto Group, and performed maintenance at the YMCA and the Manchester Public Library. Deacon Kennedy retired in 2020. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and great-uncle.
During his free time, Deacon Kennedy enjoyed fishing with his nieces, nephews, and friends, viewing his favorite TV programs, such as First 48 Hours, and Gunsmoke, and cheering for his favorite basketball and football teams. Go, Patriots! He loved cooking and his favorite dishes were fried fish, collard greens, mac and cheese, and cornbread.
Deacon Kennedy loved spending time at Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor, CT where he was a member for over fifteen years. He enjoyed singing with the Hopewell Praise and Worship Singers, attending Bible Study, and Sunday School, and always considered it an honor when asked to lead prayer during service. Despite his illness, he was dedicated to the church and loved his Pastor. He was studying to be a Deacon and was bestowed the title of an Honorary Deacon before his passing. Deacon Kennedy always said, "His faith in God, kept him."
Deacon Kennedy leaves a devoted wife Susan, sister-in-law Elizabeth Jones, daughters Victoria Bey (Ronald) of Hartford, CT, and Karen Edmonds of Winnsboro, SC, sons Christopher Foster (Kameka) of Manchester, CT, and Michael Edmonds (Tiffany) of Winnsboro, SC, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He also leaves to cherish a brother Tyrone "Chubby" Kennedy of Columbia, SC, and sisters Karen Kennedy of Columbia, SC, Ruby Kennedy Irby of Winnsboro, SC, Deaconess Carrie Walker of Bloomfield, CT and Brenda Kennedy from Tennessee, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
In addition to his parents, Deacon Kennedy was predeceased by his brothers, Sammie Kennedy, Alexander Kennedy, and Howard Kennedy.
