Hope Lange Howells, 63, of Louisburg, passed away on September 2, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 9th at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Wea. Interment will follow at Louisburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a college fund for Hope’s son, Nathaniel, who just started college and whom Hope was extremely proud of. Donations can be mailed or dropped off at First National Bank, 1201 W Amity St. Louisburg, KS 66053
Hope was born on April 2, 1962, in Highland, IL, to Larry and Shirley (Schepers) Howells. She spent her early years in Granite City, IL, before moving to Overland Park, where she graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School.
Hope became a young mother at the age of 18 and was a devoted stay-at-home mom for several years. She later went on to take courses in Early Childhood Development before establishing her career as a family advocate at Head Start.
Hope was a nonconformist who loved fast cars and motorcycles, but also the simple things in life: music, dancing, crafts, fishing, and old TV shows; she enjoyed being out in nature and loved all animals. She was outspoken but also a very good listener who was welcoming to new people. Hope was a big fan of Halloween and loved celebrating other people at birthday gatherings and holidays. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and gladly spent her time watching them while they were growing up.
Hope was a longtime member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea, the very church she was baptized in by her uncle.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Howells. Survivors include her father, Larry Howells; children: Justyn Howells, Katie Flora, and Nathaniel Phillis; grandchildren: Emma Flora, Dominic Howells, and Izabelle Howells; and her former husband, Bernard Phillis.
