Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mack's Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Elberton on Feb. 1, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Horace Baker, who entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 31, 2025, at his residence in Monroe, Georgia.
On Friday, January 31, 2025, while at his home, God welcomed Horace Baker into His heavenly gates.
Born on July 22, 1958, to the late Mr. Walter LeRoy Baker, and the late Mrs. Leonia (Burton) Baker, Horace graduated from Elbert County High School in 1976. Soon after, he proudly served as a Marine Reservist in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, Horace worked in various trades, including sales, poultry, textiles, and brick masonry, earning a reputation for his hard work and craftsmanship.
In his spare time, Horace loved preparing Southern-inspired meals and watching classic westerns. Known affectionately as "Big Jake," he embraced his larger-than-life personality, bringing joy and energy wherever he went. Always the life of the party, he was known for dancing, singing, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Horace's love for his family was boundless. He found the love of his life in the former Ms. Earline Davis, and was united for 18 years. He was devoted to his wife, caring for her with unwavering support and affection throughout their years together, always putting her needs first.
Horace's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish in his memories, a son, Mario Baker; a grandson, Jamarion Baker; one bonus son, Jonathan Davis; sisters Velma Gibbs, Winnie Douglas (Roscoe), Deckrise Moore (Rudolph), Jenet Rucker (Bruce), Rosa Baker, Shirley Hill (Sam), Theresa James (Wesley), MaDonna Baker; brothers, Vernon Baker, Leroy Tate, Jerry Baker (Nettie), Dion Baker (Natasha), James Baker, and Cedrick Hall; sisters in law, Dorothy Davis, Betty Harris, and Ella J. Health.
He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews; bonus children whom he helped raised, along with many friends, and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Earline Davis-Baker, and his brother, Bobby Browner.
Plainly, Horace was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed.
