On the beautiful morning of September 8, 2025, Howard Leroy Armstrong Jr. returned to his Heavenly home, and back to the waiting arms of his sweetheart, our mother Marilyn. He is survived by his sister, eight healthy children, their spouses, 50 grandchildren and 91 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Our father spent his working years as a lawyer and then magistrate judge to serve the people of Idaho and provide for his family.
Dad also ran a farm, not so much to make money as to raise children.
Money and worldly things were never his objective, and demonstrating his success and prosperity was never his purpose. Our Dad wanted to raise hard working, happy, and faithful children, and so tried to model that. He required hard work from us to be sure, but he also enabled many joyful moments skiing down steep mountain runs, playing on glassy water, and even just wrestling around with us on the living room floor. Never the doting Dad, he was always more comfortable laying down the law and preaching the truths of the gospel.
In 1993, he and our mother left the comforts of home to serve, love and teach the gospel to the people of Lithuania. Not only did he make a difference one on one in the lives of many individuals while on his mission, his service and legal expertise aided him in helping The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints become officially recognized and registered by the government of that country.
Despite the grief he felt at the passing of our mother in 2020, he used these past few years to soften and to forgive. Now that he has reported home to his Heavenly parents, we believe that he, like Paul, is able to humbly declare: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Thanks Dad, we love you!
