Howard Oliver Canady

Howard Oliver Canady, age 94, was born in Robeson County NC on September 19,1931 to the late Nathan Canady and Ethel Mae Hagans Canady. He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Nellie. He was the oldest child of six children in his family, all of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the original Magnolia High School in Lumberton, NC, an Army Veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the American Legion and a member of the Lumbee Warriors Association. He was a devout parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a member of the churches Golden Flock.

Howard had a love of reading, especially books and information on US and World History. He enjoyed researching his ancestorial roots and had a unique flair for navigation. He could get to wherever he needed to without the aid of a map or GPS. He and Nellie traveled the USA and beyond after retirement. The Grand Canyon, the Dakotas, Graceland, Loretta Lynn Home and the Bahamas were just a few of his favorite adventures, His hobbies and interests included traveling, fishing, Country Music, reading, attending performing events at UNCP, Oak Island Beach, collecting caps, badges, lapel pins, fellowship with his Veteran and Warrior buddies and playing checkers with his grandchildren. Howard will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

And will be admired for his strong belief in God, the Father, his country and flag and his commitment to family and friends.

Howard is survived by his daughter Sabrina and husband Michael Kim Burroughs of Greensboro, NC, two sons Howard Rex Canady of Pembroke, NC and Chuck Canady and Becky Hales of Greenville, NC, three granddaughters: Cierra Canady Maynor and husband Nick Maynor of Pembroke NC, Caitlin Burroughs King of Greensboro, NC and Cassidy Burroughs of Los Angeles, CA, three great grandchildren: Elena King, Chistian Thomas King and Ellie Grace Maynor.
