Howard Edgar "Pete" Dowden

Funeral services honoring the life of Howard "Pete" Dowden will be held on Sunday, September
1, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Good Hope Baptist Church with Brother Tinker Hillman and Les
Comeaux officiating. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's
Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Hall, Durhl Davis, Colby Wedgeworth,
Joseph Owen, Terry Robinson, and Gus Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Dowden,
Sonny Davis, Edward Doyle, and Cullen Dixon.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM until time of service.
Howard "Pete" Dowden was born on January 13, 1940, in Anacoco, LA to Marion and Katie
Dowden. He passed away on August 31, 2024, at his home at the age of 84. Pete had a deep
passion for gardening, always ensuring there was more than enough to share with everyone
around him. He dedicated 12 years of service to the Vernon Parish Policy Jury, representing
District 2, and spent over 40 years working as the owner of Pete's Plumbing in Vernon Parish. A
valued member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Pete touched many lives with his kindness and
dedication. He will be profoundly missed by all his friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his son, Randy Howard Dowden; granddaughter, Winter Nicole
Airhart; sister, Barbara Dowden and brothers Harold and Herman Dowden.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Dowden, Barbara Dowden (Jeff Hall), Bryan Dowden,
Libby Owen (Joseph), and Candice Loonsfoot (Durhl Davis); sister, Mickie Dowden;
grandchildren, Courtney Dowden, Ashleigh Dowden, Brett Dowden, Steven Jett, and Kristen
Brinkley and a host of extended family and friends.
