Howard L. Franklin II died unexpectedly on October 4, 2023, at age 39.
Howard, "Buddy", was born in Fairfax, Virginia on September 9, 1984, to Howard Franklin Sr. and Angela Franklin. He graduated from Virginia State University in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Department of Defense. On June 11, 2011, he married Shanterrian Franklin, his college sweetheart. Howard and Shanterrian have two loving children Howard Franklin III, Vivian Franklin, and a precious fur baby, named "Coco".
Howard was known to family, friends, and coworkers by many names: Howard, "Mousie", or for those of us who knew him the longest, "Buddy". Regardless of which name you used to address him, his charm, steadfastness, and charismatic presence was felt by all.
Howard was a devoted father and an avid Cowboys football fan. Howard played on football teams from elementary school up until high school. His love for the game was inherited by his son, Howard III, who plays high school football today. It was common to see Howard representing his college fraternity Omega Psi Phi with purple and gold attire from head to toe. Howard loved to cook for his family and friends, he found immense joy in setting the table with a bountiful meal for his loved ones. His daughter Vivian has inherited his love for cooking and creating loving meals.
Howard is survived by his wife; Shanterrian Franklin; son Howard Franklin III, daughter Vivian Franklin; parents, Angela Franklin of Tennessee, Howard (Inez) Franklin Sr of Virginia; and sisters, Tiffany (Orlando) Bass of Mississippi; Nikki Franklin of Virginia, and Myra (Jeremy) Black of Tennessee. Howard is also survived by an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family's peace rests in the knowledge that Howard is now with the Lord. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral service is scheduled for October 21st at 11 am at Little Union Baptist Church; 17150 Batestown Road, Dumfries, VA 22025. A viewing will be held at 10am. Rev. Sessions and Rev. Howard's committal ceremony will occur on October 28th at 12pm at Williams Temple Church of God in Christ located at 1845 Candy Owens Road, Moscow, TN, 38057.
