Howard Gilham, 69, of Spout Spring, Virginia passed away on October 25, 2023.
He was the son of the late Thomas J. Layton and Elvada W. Layton and the husband of Debbie Gilham for 48 years.
Howard was born on January 3, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended school at Fultondale High School then after a stint in the army he pursued a career in carpentry, eventually gaining Journeyman status. He was a retired member of Carpenters Local 318 in Birmingham, Alabama. Howard was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church and enjoyed hiking, backpacking, building bird feeders and gardening.
In addition to his wife, Howard is survived by his children, Leigh Ann Stroud (Joe); his grandchildren, Dakota Stroud (Jocelynn) and Trinity Branner (Jonathan); and his siblings, Andy, Patricia, Pam, Mike, and Jeannie.
In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Michael Gilham and his siblings, Linnard and Sue.
A memorial service will be held on October 29, 2023, at 2PM EST at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with family officiating.
