Howard Herbert August Klemann, affectionately known as Howie, passed away peacefully in his home on July 17, 2025, in his birthplace of
Elmhurst, Illinois, at the age of 98. Born on September 24, 1926, Howie's life was a testament to dedication, love, and service.
Howie met the love of his life, Jeanne, while attending York High School in 1941. After enlisting in the Army Air Force at age 17, Howie would attend each of Jeanne's high schools dances. The couple married at the tender age of 18 and 21. Howie and Jeanne had 5 children together who they cherished deeply. As a family, they shared many wonderful memories traveling from Illinois to various parts of the country. For many years their destination of choice was Hayward, WI., where the whole family would join for years to come.
Howie spent many years as Vice President of Nielsen-Massey Vanilla, where his leadership and commitment left a lasting impact on colleagues and the industry alike. Beyond his professional achievements, he was deeply committed to his family, community and faith.
A man of varied interests, Howie found great joy in fishing, hunting and gardening. After retiring from Nielsen-Massey, Howie and Jeanne continued to nurture their adventurous spirit, traveling together and enjoying time with friends and their beloved family. Howie will be forever remembered by his contagious laugh and his ability to recall countless songs, jokes and funny limericks. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all with his warm and effervescent personality.
A pillar of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Howie was the longest standing member, who served faithfully as an elder, head usher and Sunday school teacher. He was actively involved in all aspects of the church. His presence enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Howie proudly served in the Army Air Force, embodying a spirit of honor and dedication that he carried throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife of 77 years, Jeanne Ruth Nielsen-Klemann; his son, Jeffrey; and daughter, Donna; and sons-in-law, Greg Yanta and Bert Bestor.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: daughters Sandie Bestor and Debbie Yanta; son David Klemann and daughter-in-law Mary Lou Klemann; along with 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
