Howard Edgar McCord Jr.

Dr. Howard Edgar McCord Jr., affectionally known as "Doc" (and unaffectionately known as other names) passed away peacefully in Lake Village on February 26th, 2026, at approximately 6:30 am.

Dr. Howard McCord found the love of his life at a young age when he moved to Memphis, TN from Orlando, FL in the seventh grade. It is then that he and his wife (Sharon McCord) started dating and continued through their graduation of Hilcrest High school, his attendance of The University of Memphis and The University of Tennessee School of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school, the two of them made their way to Lake Village, AR, where they would work together, build a home, 0and raise a family. If the two of them weren't together at work, you could find them at the cabin where they spent every moment that they could. It is there that he taught his children a lot of things about life, and memories that we and many of our friends will never forget. These memories encompass a wide array of activities like driving jeeps; four-wheelers; boats, playing football on the sandbar, hunting, fishing, cooking, and "others". Dr. McCord was known for doing things his way without a terrible amount of regard to others' opinions, and you rarely found yourself in a situation where you didn't know where he stood on a topic. Although "slightly" stubborn, his love for his wife and boys was never doubted. He will be missed by family and friends, but we smile knowing that he is reuniting with his wife, which has been his greatest wish for the last 13 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Sheffield McCord; his father, Howard Edgar McCord Sr.; and his brother, Lawrence Allen "Larry" McCord.

Howard is survived by his mother, Melba McCord; his sons, Drew McCord (Maury) and Nelson McCord (Lauren); his sister, Julie Carkeet (Steve); his grandchildren, John William McCord (14), Sheffield McCord (10), Lucy McCord (6), Rhodes McCord (8), and Collins McCord (6), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Lakeside First United Methodist Church.
