Gainesville, FL: Mr. Howard Shelton Neighbors, Jr. age 80 of Gainesville passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at Shands Hospital. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held-2:00 PM Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.
He was born September 15, 1944, in Dunn, North Carolina to the late Howard and Ruth (Johnson) Neighbors, Sr. Mr. Neighbors enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 where he earned his National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, along with a Sharpshooter Rifle Medal. Prior to retiring he was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman as well as having worked in the Maintenance Department at The University of Florida. Mr. Neighbors was a “Jack of all Trades” and enjoyed watching Gator Football, television shows, and keeping up with the Stock Market, and tending to his precious cat “Kitty”.
He leaves behind a daughter Lisa Stevenson (James) of Austin, TX; sister Faye Stewart of Robbins, North Carolina; nieces Lynn Rabon Patton (Douglas) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Gayle Kozinski (Jason) of Keystone Heights, Florida. Also left behind are four grandchildren Bryan, Stephen, Sarah, and James Robert along with eight great grandchildren; three great nieces, one great nephew, his close friend and mother of his daughter Rosa Maria Ramos of El Paso, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service on Saturday October 19, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC.
