Howard Romines Obituary

Howard David Romines

July 27, 1934 - May 29, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Howard David Romines, 90, of State College, passed away at home surrounded by loving family on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Born at home in Knoxville, TN on July 27, 1934, he was the son of the late James C. and late Helen Mae (Curtis) Romines.

He is survived by his loving partner, Annie Rossi of State College; sons, James Romines and his wife Gena of Daytona, FL and Jeff Romines and his wife Clara of Baja, MX; sister, Nancy Whitefield of Groveland, CA; brother, Donald Romines and his wife Brenda of St. John's, FL; grandchildren, Jonathan, Joseph, Nick, Brooklyn and Stefan; and five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Juliet, Jocelyn, Jessamyn and Kyler. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Romines; brother, James Romines; and sister, Linda Sunday

Howard graduated from South High School, Knoxville, TN in 1953 and attended the University of Tennessee. Served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Howard began his career path with the Mumford Corporation based in Atlanta, GA and eventually moved to State College where he was employed by Uni-Marts, Inc., retiring as the company's Executive Vice President in 1997. Following his retirement from Uni-Marts, Howard and his business partner, Charles Markham opened Property Management Realty, Inc. which they operated for 22 years before closing the business in 2020. His past leadership experiences include President of the Georgia Jaycees and Chairman of the Board for the New York Association of Convenience Stores.

Howard loved the game of golf. As a member of Centre Hills Country Club, he played golf on any day that ended with a 'y', and scored a Hole-in-One on #18. In the many years of his membership, he served on the CHCC Golf Committee and Social Committee and was Chairman of the CHCC "The Seniors" Golf Tournament, which was renamed after him in 2024. Howard also served as President of CHCC and pledged to bring a smile to every member and employee of CHCC.

With Howard's love of family, he made it his obligation to bring everyone together each year for the family reunions.

Starting in Gatlinburg, TN, houseboat excursions in TN, then venturing out to Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia. What a great time had by all.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Centre County Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 4:00- 7:00pm at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St, State College.
