Howard James Skinner, 71, of the Town of Minisink, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at Park Manor Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness.
Howard was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lisa Manzi Skinner.
Born to the late Joan Terwilliger Skinner and John E. Skinner Sr., Howard was raised in the Minisink area and later earned his GED in October 1991. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1974, achieving the rank of Specialist 4th Class as a Practical Nurse. During his service, he also trained as a lineman and cable splicer with GTE Sylvania.
After his honorable military service, Howard worked for a decade at Sunset Haven and Hill Top Farm, a combined dairy farm and nursing home. He also served as a health counselor with the Girl Scouts, reflecting his lifelong dedication to helping others.
Howard was employed by the Minisink Valley Central School District from 1978 until his retirement in 2000. Rising from custodial worker to custodial manager, he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership.
Howard was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He opened his heart and his home to many, touching lives with his compassion and unwavering support.
In addition to his wife, Lisa, Howard is survived by his children: Philip Skinner of Middletown, NY, and Joseph Skinner of Scranton, PA; his stepchildren: Debra Hendley of Honesdale, PA, and Lisa Hendley of West Pittston, PA; and his bonus daughters, Jessica Hill and Crystal Manzi, both of Middletown, NY. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Skinner of Dobbs Ferry, NY, and Carol Lynch of Monticello, NY; sisters-in-law Marion and Nancy Walsh of Warwick, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers John Skinner Jr. (2013) and Harry Skinner (2020), his sister Sue Ann Eurich, and his nephew Cory Lynch.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Martinez-Morse Funeral Home.
