Howard E. West

Howard E. West, born in Edinburg, Texas to the late Willie Mae West-Gardner and Edgar West Sr. was called home at the age of 77. Howard lived a life rooted in fishing, friends, and family.
A proud graduate of Edinburg High School, Class of 1966, he went on to attend Pan American University. During his youth, he excelled in both basketball and football, sports he enjoyed long after his playing days. Fishing and playing cards remained his greatest pastimes, offering him peace and reflection. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a Vietnam veteran, a commitment he carried with pride throughout his life. His strong work ethic was evident through his many years of service with the U.S. Postal Service, Victoria Independent School District (VISD), Halliburton, and 7UP/Big Red. On May 25, 1985, he entered a beautiful 40-year marriage, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion. His faith remained central to his life as a member of Mt. Salem Baptist Church, where he found community, strength, and spiritual guidance.
Survived by wife of 40 years, Laura L. West. He leaves behind a proud legacy through his children: Lisa L. West, Howard (Debi) West Jr., Anna A. (Fred) Gibson, Monica Bossier, Lloyston West, Byron J. West. Step-daughters: Taneca (Michael) Stovall and LaShawntee (Jessamio) Drouin. He was also a grandfather of 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Edgar West Jr. and Dan W. Bateman Sr. And sister Gladys Mae Daniel.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Malinda Kay Ervin, Milton A. West, Faye E. Willis, Vader Martin, and Mintie A. Wills.
He will be remembered for his resilience, his dedication to family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, beginning at 11am-1:00pm, with a Prayer service to begin at 12pm at Mt. Salem Baptist Church 609 E. North St. Victoria, Tx. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
