Hubert "Hoopie" Douglas Pingleton, of
Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, took his peaceful journey home on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on August 13, 1949, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, Hubert was a devoted family man, a hard worker, and a friend to many.
He was the beloved husband of Carol Nutt Pingleton, celebrating 56 years of happiness, and proud father to Douglas Dean Pingleton. He was also a cherished grandfather to Paisley Paige Pingleton. Hoopie's family meant everything to him, and he found great joy in their company and the life they built together.
Known for his quiet strength and steady hands, Hoopie worked as a machine operator and machinist for Acme Engineering for 39 years before retiring in 2011. He spent much of his life in Okay and
Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, where he was well-respected by neighbors, coworkers, and friends alike.
Hoopie was a graduate of Okay High School and a man of simple pleasures. He was known for smoking the best brisket and ribs around. His presence at family barbecues and gatherings was always a highlight, and his smoked meats were legendary. Hoopie had a deep love for outdoors and the simple joys of life. He spent countless peaceful hours hunting in the woods, casting a line into Oklahoma waters, or bowling with friends and family in the Senior League. Whether tracing game, reeling in a catch, or rolling strikes at the lanes, Hoopie found joy and relaxation in these pastimes. They weren't just hobbies, they were part of who he was. He especially loved the camaraderie that came with them, often sharing laughter, friendly competition and stories that turned into cherished memories.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Douglas; his granddaughter, Paisley; his brothers, Charles, David, and Donald Pingleton; his sister, Louise "Dink" Tibbs; sisters-in-law, Barbara Pingleton and Phyllis Nutt; many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, five dogs, and a bird.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Franklin Pingleton and Lela Pearl Echols Pingleton; mother-in-law, Estelle Nutt; siblings, Kenneth Pingleton, Jerry Pingleton, Pam Pingleton, Frieda Langton, and Beverly Verne; brothers-in-law, Bill Nutt, Robert Verne, Earl Moffett; and sister-in-law, Bobbie Moffett.
Hoopie's memory will live on through the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love that remains in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, kindness, and quiet wisdom, a true example of a life well-lived.
A celebration of Hoopie's life will be held at a later date.
