Hudson Street Reed, age 95, was born on October 15, 1926 in Asbury Park, New Jersey to Joseph E. and Cecelia Reed, the fifth of six children, passed away on August 17, 2022. Huddy, as he was called, was a product of the Asbury Park school system. He graduated from Bangs Avenue Elementary School and Asbury Park High School, in Asbury Park, NJ. He later entered the US Navy Reserves and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Huddy enrolled in Howard University and transferred to St. Augustine College on a basketball scholarship, where he majored in business administration. Upon graduation from St. Augustine College he relocated to Philadelphia, PA to work for Supreme Liberty Life Insurance of Chicago Illinois, as a special insurance agent.
In 1954 he married his lovely and devoted wife, Hortense Knuckles, and became the father of Debra and Diane.
After leaving Supreme life insurance company, Huddy joined The North Carolina Mutual insurance Co. of Durham, N.C. as a sales manager until he retired in 1993.
He was a member of St. Barnabas and St. Lukes Episcopal Church of Philadelphia, PA before returning to the shore area of Ocean Township, NJ. In 2013, he relocated to Sewell, NJ to be closer with family. He enjoyed reading the New York Post and watching basketball and football. He was an avid fan of New York sports teams.
He was a 60year member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity where he served faithfully in the Philadelphia, PA and Neptune, NJ chapters.
Hudson was preceded in death by his wife, Hortense Reed. He leaves to mourn his daughters, Debra Wells (Ernest) of Fayetteville, NC, Diane Stevens (Larry) of Sewell, NJ, four grandchildren, Brenden Wells of Missouri, Danielle of Raleigh, NC, Briaana Stevens-Scorzetti (Anthony) of West Chester, PA, and Sean Stevens of Sewell, NJ, one great-grandchild, Isaiah Wells, nieces, Elaine (Bill: deceased), and Millicent (Harry), nephews, Joesph III (Mary), Leslie (Shonda), cousins, and a long list of friends.
