Mr. Hugh Pete Avant

Hugh W. "Pete" Avant was born in Alabama on Jan. 4, 1931 and died in San Diego, California on July 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by Dianne M. Avant, his spouse for 28 years. Pete fought until the end not to let memory loss stop him from living. He will be missed by his 6 children: Heidi, Doug, Tricia, Tim, Aimee, Jen & their spouses Paul, Kim, Dave; 8 grandchildren: Cara, Beca, Josh, Zac, Evie, Ella, Abby, Ollie; Alabama family: Hazel, Ernest, Ruby, Betty, their families; many nieces and nephews; Our extended family The Chapmans and many more lifelong friends. Thank you so much for all your prayers, support & care while he battled Alzheimer's disease. When Pete moved to California in 1958, it became his 2nd home thanks to all the extended family and friends who are still in our lives today. Thank you for making him feel right at home. His 1st home, Alabama, has always been alive in him and the traditions of southern hospitality and family run strong through all of his children. We thank our southern family for maintaining strong bonds with us by always calling & writing. There are many things still to say but we can share them together on this website, during his memorial service and through continued correspondence. He will be missed for his love, laughter, sweepstakes ventures and home construction adventures. Sincerely, The Avants
