Hugh Crawford Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 5, 2026.
Hugh Crawford was born April 29, 1945 in Pomona, California, to Rollin and Marjorie Crawford. He grew up alongside his older sister, Barbara, who remained his lifelong friend. His childhood was marked by fishing the trout stream behind his home, hunting nearby hills, and the companionship of loyal dogs.

In high school, he fought wildfires near Redding, beginning a life of service. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and volunteered as a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam. Though he returned home physically unharmed, the experience deeply affected him.

After attending junior college, Hugh built a career with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office in Oregon, serving first as a patrol deputy and later as a detective.

In retirement, he became a river guide on the Rogue River. He also rode his motorcycle cross-country in the Run for the Wall to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 2013. One of his proudest achievements was helping secure legislation requiring the POW/MIA flag to fly year-round at Oregon state public offices, signed into law in 2017.

Hugh was grateful for his many friends, his family, and his loving wife, Sannon Crawford.
