Hugh Rogers Kendall, 85, of Clarskville, MD, and Thomas, WV, passed away on June 20, 2024, at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Born on October 2, 1938, in Olney, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Nicholson and Mary (Pue) Kendall.
After graduating from Howard High School, Hugh served in the U.S. Army National Guard. As a young man, he worked for the family owned store, Chas N. Kendall General Store, and after his father passed away, he took over the family business. As the community grew in size, so did their business that transpired into a hardware store, gaining the name of Kendall Hardware, which now his son, Steven, proudly owns and operates. Hugh started his next business endeavors in Thomas, WV, where he was most notably known for his co-founding H & H Hardware. Hugh was very proud of Kendall Hardware and H & H Hardware as they both have grown and served the communities he loved. After retirement, he invested in businesses and homes, renovating them, and assisting new owners in suceeding financially. He was a member of the American Legion and the FOE#936.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee (Koby) Kendall, to whom he was married on August 14, 1965; two children, Emily Kendall and husband David Moynihan and Steven Kendall and wife Janice; six grandchildren, Sarah Hurwitz, Elizabeth Rycke and husband Coulter, Logan Kendall, Cody Kendall, Alexandra Hall and husband RJ, and Jillian Wink and husband Andrew; and seven great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM and 5 to 7 PM at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, 567 Thomas Ave., Davis. A brief celebration of life will be held at 7 PM, in the funeral home with Father Martin Smay officiating.
Friends will be received on Thursday, June 27, 22024, from 4 to 8 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11 AM in the St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Catholic Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, for their community support fund, po box 300 Thomas, WV 26292.
